It seems Jamal Charles did not get points for returning a Kickoff for a TD against the Steelers (Week 11). Is this something that needs to be adjusted?

Though it's a "special teams" play and contributes to the owner of the Kansas City D/ST, it is also an individual performance and should count towards Charles' individual points contribution...shouldn't it?
Bitte immer den Namen der Liga am Anfang des Threadtitels nennen. Danke.
Sorry, I didn't realize that EVERYONE sees the thread. Yet, even though everyone sees it nobody can answer my question?
My name is nobody... 8)

I guess the idea was to not "double count" the score, so it goes to the DST and not also to the returner.

I am in another league where the return yards and return TDs are awarded only to the returner. So Defense TDs are only counted for fumble or interception return TDs.
That makes Royal, Cribs and Sproles a bit more valuable than in other leagues...

I am not in favor of either of both options. We should conduct a poll on this matter and can change the rules for next season accordingly.
Are the rules explicit for our league about how such a situation is scored?

Of course the Royals, Cribbs', Hester's, and D. Jackson's of the NFL will have slightly more potential for points due to their kick return role combined with them being starting positional players...which to me is a good thing to create parity for the position.

In my opinion such an inclusion makes 100% sense...fantasy football is about the individual performances, and the D/ST is merely a way of simplifying the game to make it easier to manage (less granular). Such a simplification should not eliminate the individual feat of returning a kickoff for a touchdown, if done by an offensive player.
Kick return points go to the defense. It is defense AND special teams and special teams make kick returns. Wink
...and an individual is the person holding the ball when entering the end zone... Wink

Without D. Jackson, D. Hester, J. Charles, would that same kick return be going 90+ yards for TDs? To me it seems funny to know that one of them has returned a kick for a TD but yet doesn't get any credit for it as an individual because he did it while on the Special Teams unit instead of lined up at the line of scrimmage.
I discussed this with Chris and there is a very good point for both side.

DST should get the points:
It's a team play. No single player could score without his team.

Single player should get the points:
Having a player like Wes Welker, Jackson or Hester that also returns kicks in addition to his other duties, increases the injury risk of that player, so the owner should get compensated for that risk by giving him the points.

Both point of views are really good and I would say, let's keep it like the "Challenge rule" in the NFL. If you can prove without any doubts that the ruling on the field should be overturned, overturn it. Here, there are many doubts so I say: Keep it as it is.

If our system would grant the points to the single player currently, I would say "Keep it as it is" as well.
Injury risk is just one point, but also MOST kick returners aren't starting line players. Hester's return duties were limited this season because the Bears wanted him to focus more on receiving, because they feel he's their best receiver. If he's returning kicks he's tired for the first few plays of any offensive drive, and thus is not on the field for those first plays.

The balance is in the way the league utilizes kick returners, as evidenced by the amount of "top receivers/running backs" that currently return kicks. Welker's value (as an example) would be increased by such a rule change, but with the right point distribution giving few points for yards returned the value should not be artificially inflated so that he's overvalued compared to the top receivers in the league.

But it's just a thought...this was the first time I had a player who scored on a kick return (Charles was on my bench) so I was surprised to see such a low score (12 points) for an individual who had two TDs during his past game (which would normally score him 12 points before yards are calculated).

Just to be clear though, I don't see the current situation as "broken", but rather I see the KRTDs and KRYDs as a possible area for enhancement to a fantasy league.
