Updating previous stories, ESPN.com reports the Miami Dolphins will likely not be able to give LB Zach Thomas a contract extension this season due to salary cap issues. Thomas has one year left on his contract and will count for $6.914 million against the cap in 2003. Drew Rosenhaus, Thomas' agent, says both sides have made little progress so far.

Updating previous reports, the Buffalo News reports Buffalo Bills president and general manager Tom Donahoe said the team placed its franchise tag on WR Peerless Price to force contract negotiations. “We wanted to have more discussion,” Donahoe said. “We’re hopeful that the discussion starts to be two-way instead of one way. The only way we could do that, the only way we could guarantee that we could do that, was to put the tag on him.” Donahoe said he plans to meet with Price’s agent, Tim McGee, Friday, but he isn’t in a rush to get a long-term contract completed.



Updating previous stories, the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reports the Buffalo Bills WR Peerless Price rejected a deal on Tuesday that would have paid him between $3 and $5 million per season, a club official confirmed. By Price rejecting the deal, the team felt they were forced to place the franchise tag on him. The club is still pursuing a long-term deal with Price.

Updating previous reports, the Florida Times-Union reports talks between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the agent for RB Fred Taylor are starting to improve. Taylor’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, submitted a counter-proposal to the team during a meeting Thursday morning. “The talks have been good,” Rosenhaus said. “We’ll see where it goes from here.”

The Florida Times-Union reports Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio said the team will not re-sign QB Kent Graham. “We’ll go find somebody like [Graham] in free agency,” Del Rio said Friday from the NFL Scouting Combine.

Updating previous reports, the Florida Times-Union reports Jacksonville Jaguars S Donovin Darius is not happy with being tagged as the team’s franchise player. Although he and his agent, Tom Condon, were unavailable for comment, Darius is apparently angry over the fact that he won’t receive a signing bonus under the tag, and it will severely limit interest from other teams.

Updating previous reports, the Miami Herald reports Miami Dolphins vice president of football operations and player personnel Rick Spielman and head coach Dave Wannstedt said they both expect FB Rob Konrad to test the free agent market. “Rob is going to be a coveted player, and I expect a lucrative market for him,” said Konrad’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus. “I’m not afraid to get into free agency with Rob.”

Brent Jones, of the Baltimore Sun, reports the Baltimore Ravens are interested in Arizona Cardinals WR David Boston. If the Cardinals don’t re-sign Boston, the Ravens will make a strong attempt and luring the soon-to-be free agent to Baltimore.

The Star Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings TE Byron Chamberlain has spent the past month working out at Fischer Sports Therapy and Conditioning in Phoenix. Chamberlain expects to enter the 2003 season in his best shape ever.

Updating an earlier story, the Star Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings vice president of football operations Rob Brzezinski was scheduled to arrive in Indianapolis Friday night. He is there to meet with Jimmy Sexton, the agent for TE Jim Kleinsasser. The team is still interested in reaching a long-term deal with Kleinsasser. Negotiations, however, could be somewhat drawn out.

Updating an earlier story, the Star Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Tice said he has talked to free agent QB Neil O'Donnell. He has scheduled a Tuesday meeting at Winter Park for O'Donnell. "Neil is the perfect guy; he's done it already," Tice said of O'Donnell. The Titans still want to re-sign O'Donnell, but, according to Tice, O'Donnell was disappointed by his release by the Titans.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy said Friday at the NFL Combine that it’s too early to tell on RB Dominic Rhodes (knee) status for the upcoming year. Rhodes suffered a torn ACL last year. “It’s a little too early to say,” Dungy noted in regards to Rhodes’ health.

Updating previous stories, ClevelandBrowns.com reports Cleveland Browns head coach Butch Davis is happy with the team's quarterback situation. “We’re one of the very few teams in the league that’s fortunate enough to have two guys the team believes in and that we can win games with,” Davis said. “We’re fortunate enough to have a situation with two very talented guys.”

Updating previous stories, Len Pasquarelli of ESPN.com, reports the Atlanta Falcons have released WR Shawn Jefferson. The team will save $2.6 million, but he will still count $1.8 million against the cap for 2003.
