SuperDuper schrieb:Len Pasquarelli of ESPN.com reports the Detroit Lions once again contacted former Lions RB Barry Sanders, attempting to lure him back to the playing field. Once again, Barry declined. Detroit, who still retains Sanders contractual rights, has contacted him every year since he retired abruptly four seasons ago. "He might consider the Lions but only as one of 32 teams, not the only team for which he could come back," said a source close to Sanders. "He wants options and, at this point, it doesn't look like he is going to get any other choices."

Gruß MJ

Updating previous reports, Matt Maiocco for the Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports the San Francisco 49ers do not expect to release WR J.J. Stokes by the end of the week because it would not provide the team with any salary cap relief. However, it is still expected he will need to take a pay cut in order to remain with the 49ers for the long haul.

Matt Maiocco for the Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports the San Francisco 49ers might ask DT Dana Stubblefield to restructure his contract and take a pay cut. If he does not agree, there is a possibility he could be released. The possible release of Stubblefield and OL Dave Fiore would save the team approximately $4.7 million against the salary cap.

Updating previous reports, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the St. Louis Rams are still waiting to hear from CB Aeneas Williams as to whether he will return next season. “We’re just waiting on Aeneas to give us the green light on if he’s going to come back,” said Rams head coach Mike Martz. “He has to make that decision that he wants to be back. And obviously, we’ll have to figure out financially what’s going on.” Williams is due a $3.5 million roster bonus at the end of the week.

The Denver Post reports Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan and WR Ed McCaffrey are set to meet this week to determine the player’s future with the team. The Broncos would like to keep McCaffrey, and he would like to stay, but contractual circumstances might prevent that from happening. The team would like McCaffrey to restructure his contract, which is set to have him count $4.14 million against the salary cap. “I have no problem trying to do something to lower my cap number to help our team bring in and sign other players,” McCaffrey said. “My feeling on restructuring is that, as long as it’s fair to both parties, I would not have a problem with it.” The Broncos would save $1.6 million against the cap by releasing him.

Updating previous reports, the Daily Herald reports the Chicago Bears are letting LB Rosevelt Colvin test the free agent market, but that doesn’t mean he definitely won’t re-sign with the team. “We agreed with his agent that we’d let him go out in the market and see what his value is,” said Bears general manager Jerry Angelo. “We need to let the market determine who was closer to center.”
