die skywalkers titans waren fleißig:

The Tennessean reports the Tennessee Titans could look to restructure the contracts for DE Kevin Carter ($5.7 million) or OL Fred Miller ($5.9 million). "We are willing to help them out," said agent Harold Lewis, who represents Carter and Miller. "Floyd (GM Floyd Reese) said he would give me a call [this week]. If they need the cap relief, we are there for them."

Updating an earlier story, the Tennessean reports the Tennessee Titans have restructured the contract of WR Derrick Mason. Mason's new deal will save the team $1.9 million.

Updating an earlier story, the Tennessean reports the Tennessee Titans have restructured the contract of CB Samari Rolle. Rolle's contract, which originally had a cap charge of $7.38 million for 2003, will be adjusted to save the team $3.5 million. The Titans will give Rolle a lower base salary, but he'll receive a signing bonus up front to make up for it.

Updating an earlier story, the Denver Post reports Denver Broncos WR Ed McCaffrey and Broncos coach Mike Shanahan met Monday for nearly 30 minutes to try to reach a compromise on a new contract for McCaffrey. Negotiations continued throughout the day between Shanahan and McCaffrey's agent, Marvin Demoff, and those talks could conclude Tuesday. The tone of Monday's talks between McCaffrey and the Broncos was said to be positive, with chances increasing that the two sides could resolve any differences they might have. However, reaching a new deal may not be that easy. McCaffrey believes he is capable of performing like any of the NFL's top receivers, but the Broncos need to trim more than $20 million from their payroll.

The Washington Times reports agent Ken Landphere sais the Washington Redskins have had informal conversations with him about free agent PR/KR/WR Jermaine Lewis (Texans). Landphere added no workout has been scheduled.

Updating an earlier story, the Tribune Review reports the Pittsburgh Steelers may not be close to a new deal with restricted free agent FB Dan Kreider. The two sides are far from finalizing a deal, and the Steelers must offer Kreider at least a one-year, $619,000 tender Thursday to retain his rights.

The Post Gazette reports the Pittsburgh Steelers opened contract negotiations with free agent TE Jerame Tuman during the middle of last week. Whether they can a reach contract agreement before Friday is unlikely.

bei sportingnews wurden spieler verglichen, die um dieselbe position im team kämpfen:

(58) Amos Zereoue and (98) Jerome Bettis, Steelers. The Bus almost certainly won't start in Pittsburgh next season, so it's time to see if Zereoue can get the Steelers moving. If 2002 was any indication of what's to come, he's ready. In the four games that Bettis sat out last year, Zereoue ran for 100 yards three times and had four touchdowns. Although he shouldn't need to keep checking over his shoulder, Zereoue will see his value increase if Bettis lands elsewhere next season.

66) Duce Staley and (159) Correll Buckhalter, Eagles. Last season Staley, who finished with 1,029 yards and five TDs, was generally unspectacular as Philly's main back. His job is anything but secure. Buckhalter had surgery to repair a torn ACL last May, and should be healthy enough to participate in offseason workouts. They could split time, or either could win the No. 1 job.

(81) Shannon Sharpe, Broncos. Sharpe has hinted that he might retire and take his talent -- i.e., big mouth -- to the broadcast booth. Don't mistake this career exploration as a sign that Sharpe's skills are diminishing at 34. He's still a top-five tight end if he returns.

SuperDuper

102) Antowain Smith, Patriots. Smith doesn't overwhelm teams with his explosiveness. Speedy Gonzalez he's not. He scored half as many touchdowns (six) in 2002 as he did the previous season, and he averaged nearly 11 fewer yards per game. His drop in production has New England pondering an upgrade at the position. Thanks to the Drew Bledsoe trade, the Pats have two first-round picks in this year's draft. Don't be surprised if the team goes after a quick, pass-catching back on the first day.
