Updating previous reports, the Houston Chronicle reports the Houston Texans will most likely hold onto their No. 3 pick in the first round of the NFL Draft and won’t make a trade just to make a trade. “Somebody will have to make an offer we can’t refuse, or we’ll stay where we are,” said Texans general manager Charley Casserly. “We have to be careful not to force trades to fill holes.”

Updating previous reports, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports now that Philadelphia Eagles DE Derrick Burgess (foot) had to undergo more surgery on his foot, the team might be changing its stance on using its transition or franchise tag on DE Hugh Douglas. As recently as Tuesday, the team wasn’t expected to utilize either tag, trying instead to simply re-sign Douglas. Now, however, with Burgess’ status in question, Douglas becomes all that more important to the Eagles’ defensive scheme.

Bart Hubbuch reports for the Florida Times-Union after a healthy 2002 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars have offered RB Fred Taylor a new contract. The team is confident an agreement can be reached soon, Jaguars senior vice president Paul Vance confirmed yesterday. Neither Vance nor Taylor's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, would reveal details of the proposal. "We're just waiting to hear back," said Vance, who expects to continue talks with Rosenhaus this week at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Without a contract extension, Taylor could become an unrestricted free agent after the 2003 season.

BUFFALO BILLS - PRICE GETS FRANCHISE TAG
Updating previous stories, BuffaloBills.com reports the Buffalo Bills placed the team's franchise tag on WR Peerless Price, despite previous contradictory statements from team President Tom Donahue. By placing the tag on Price, the Bills are offering him at minimum the average base salary of the top five receiver's contracts. According to the Associated Press, the one-year tender offer will pay Price $5.01 million for 2003. Other teams can negotiate a contract with Price, but would have two pay two first-round draft picks as compensation.

John Clayton reports for ESPN.com the New York Jets are preparing a tender contract offer for WR Laveranues Coles. They may give him a higher tender than the $619,000 that would net a third-round choice if he goes to another team. To tender him with a first-round pick as compensation, they must offer him $1.35 million. For a first- and third-round choice, the tender for Coles would be $1.801 million.

was bedeutet das? und vor allem, was sind das für mickrige summe gegenüber anderen contracts?
