The Tampa Tribune reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have restructured the contract of LB Derrick Brooks. The Bucs turned Brooks' $4.75 million salary for 2003 into a signing bonus. "I have been contacted to do something to help our team," Brooks said. "Now, hopefully, we can keep as many players [as possible] in our quest to repeat." The Bucs lowered their payroll by approximately $2 million with the restructuring of Brooks.

Updating an earlier story, the Free Press reports DL Robert Porcher signed a two-year contract worth $7 million, including a $1-million signing bonus, to stay with the Detroit Lions. He provided the Lions an estimated $3.5-$4.5 million in additional cap room for the start of free agency Friday. Lions president Matt Millen said: "He is an invaluable member of this team, as proven by his abilities and attitude during the game, at practice, in the weight room, in meetings and in the locker room."
